Adding A Document Library to SharePoint Online

This post covers how to create a document library for custom code in SharePoint Online. The basis will be an out-of-the-box document library with search indexing turned off, versioning turned on, and unique permissions applied. Follow these easy steps:

  1. Add a Document Library by going to Settings -> Add an app:SharePoint Document Library 1
  2. Then click on Document Library:SharePoint Document Library 2
  3. Name the app and click Create:SharePoint Document Library 3
  4. Find the new app in Site Contents, click the menu, and select Settings:SharePoint Document Library 4
  5. Click Advanced Settings:SharePoint Document Library 5
  6. Select the No radio button for Search to prevent these documents from showing up in search results:SharePoint Document Library 6
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click OK
  8. Next click Versioning settings:SharePoint Document Library 7
  9. Select the versioning option you want, e.g. Create major versions:SharePoint Document Library 7
  10. Click OK
  11. For the final customization, click Permissions for this document library:SharePoint Document Library 8
  12. Click Stop Inheriting Permissions:SharePoint Document Library 9.png
  13. Click OK to confirm
  14. Click Grant Permissions
  15. Everyone will need read permissions so that the code is executed properly, so type Everyone, select Read permission level, and click Share:SharePoint Document Library 11
  16. Grant additional permissions as appropriate (e.g. give developers Contribute permissions).
